I recently sent out an email to a list of my readers asking for their feedback about a series I’m starting this month. I asked them if they were interested in learning how to become a cherished wife or an influential wife. And hundreds of wives responded.
After tallying up the responses, the results are in!
Drum roll, please…..
I know, I know, you were probably one of the many who wanted to learn about being an Influential Wife! The votes were split about 60/40. I’m sure all the type-A personalities raised their hands for being a wife of influence. 🙂
And some women wanted both topics covered!
Other women thought my titles meant that I was looking to teach wives how to change their husbands. This couldn’t be further from the truth because I’m not about to teach wives something that’s not biblical. It’s the Holy Spirit’s role to change the heart of man. A wife can’t change her husband, but she can influence him. There is a difference between the two. But first, let’s find out what influence is, shall we?
Dictionary definition of influence:
The capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.
A Tale of Two Wives Using their Influence
One wife went to her husband, a man of God, mind you, and she told him to eat a certain fruit. And the man did, knowing full well he shouldn’t have. In fact, doing so would’ve broken his fellowship with God. But this wife had so much influence in her man’s life! He chose to listen to her instead of his God. (Genesis 3:6)
Wife number two went to her ungodly husband asking him to save her people. And he did. (Esther 7:3)
What both these wives had in common was they had favor with their husbands. And if you have favor with your guy, you can influence him.
The first wife above used her influence for her own self. Her name was Eve. The other wife used her influence to bring God glory. Her name was Queen Esther.
God gave every wife influence in the life of their husband. It’s how we use our influence that matters.
Let me point something out to you. If you are married, at one point in your relationship, you had favor with your guy due to the simple fact that he asked you to marry him!
So, why am I telling you so much about being an influential wife when that is not the series I’m going to write?
Well, because being a cherished wife and an influential wife are intertwined. It took me several years into my marriage to learn this truth. And since God showed me this beautiful concept, I wanted to point this out to you as we head into the series of Becoming a Cherished Wife!
