Book Review: “Single Girl” by Ashley Schnarr
I have a heart for single women. In fact, one day I want to write a book just for those that find themselves in this stage of life, but unfortunately that book will have to wait because of the season of life that I’m in today.
Not too long ago I was contacted by a reader of mine, Ashley Schnarr, who is a Christian blogger too, and she asked me if I would review her book. At the time of her asking I had another blogger ask me the same thing. I really thought I’d be sharing the other book, (I couldn’t commit to both), but after I read Ashley’s book, I was blown away! I knew it was the exact message that I wanted to share here on The Alabaster Jar for my single sisters!
While reading her book called, “Single Girl: the single woman’s guide to life, liberty and the pursuit of godliness“, I found myself nodding in agreement to everything she was saying! I knew before I had even finished the book that the message Ashley shared is the message I’d share with young women! Thus, I deemed it a perfect fit this ministry. (Believe it or not, The Alabaster Jar is not just a ministry for the married women! I’ve been trying to get to you single gals but the questions from wives just keep pouring in. So, thanks for your patience and grace, my dear single sisters! 🙂 )
Now I must say that I believe Ashley hit a home run with this God-fearing, God-honoring book for single women! In fact, after reading it I told Ashley two things…
“If I had time to write a book to the single women I would have shared what you wrote!” 🙂
“If I had daughters I would have raised them to have the same biblical understanding as you AND I’d teach them to embrace the same path that you have shared in your book!”
So who is this book for?
If you’re a single gal I highly recommend you reading this book!
If you mentor girls and young women I believe this book will help you in your ministry as you guide and pour into the lives of these young women during this stage of their lives. Plus, there is a mentor’s guide that goes along with this book!
If you’re a mama of teen-aged girls or young women then this book will give them a vision for a God-honoring lifestyle during their singleness. (Just a side note to the mamas that I happen to know personally who have daughters…I was thinking of you and your girls/young women when I read this book! So please grab it for your girl. You’ll be glad you did because it will draw them closer to Jesus Christ rather than into the ways of the world!)
Actually, my heart is for every mother who has daughters to read this book, no matter their age!
Ashley fills this book to the brim with a Biblical vision for the single woman! It’s packed with Godly wisdom and discernment as well as practical and sound advice of what to do during this season of a young woman’s life. I can not sing enough praises of this book!
So what’s in the book, you might ask?
Wondering about dating and courting? Working at home? Going to college? Ashley covers all of these topics and then some. She also discusses outer appearance and how to enhance it, but not overdo. She delves into spiritual matters, friendships as well as domestic skills.
Here’s a glimpse into the chapters…

It’s less than $5.00 bucks and you can get it here.
A note to Ashley….
Dear sister, although I don’t know you personally, you have a beautiful heart for the Lord and He is well pleased with you! Continue to pour your life out for our great King because He is SO deserving of our service and sacrifice no matter what stage of life we find ourselves in! And thanks for asking me to review your book! I know it is a much needed message for the young, Godly women living in today’s culture. I pray that God will use your message, the message that He has birthed into your heart, to drawn His precious daughters closer to Him so His name will be lifted high for all to see.

This is interesting…I was just having a conversation with a single girl at my church about how there really aren’t many compelling books about singleness. I found one (Altared by Claire and Eli) but I might have to pass along this suggestion as well. Thanks for reviewing this!
