Top 10 Things a Wise Woman Should Pursue
Have you ever felt like no matter how hard you’ve tried to set priorities in your life, your soul still feels undernourished and unsettled? Yeah, me too.
I kept asking the Lord what was it that I was missing.
How come I couldn’t get grounded and organized?
Why couldn’t I reach a point of order in my home and my heart?
I ran my priority list through my mind and I felt like I was pretty good in most areas, but clearly something was off-kilter because my soul was in deep search of something that was definitely lacking.
One day during my quiet time with the Lord I asked Him where was the deficiency in my life? Why did my soul feel so disheveled?
The list below is what He showed me to pursue and perhaps it will minister to you if your soul has felt agitated and restless.
Top 10 Things a Wise Woman Should Pursue
1.The Lord.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matt. 6:33
A desire to know Him more. To experience more of His presence and His inexplicable joy.
2. My Husband.
“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” Eph. 5:31
His heart and his body. I’ve written more about this topic here and here.
3. My childrens’ hearts.
And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. Malachi 2:15 (ESV)
A mom connects with her kids through simple routines like meal time and bath time, if they’re really young. We also connect when we play with them, talk with them, and listen to them (especially in the teen years). One simple thing I do in my home is have Family Night every few weeks so my teens will still feel connected to us as they continue toward a life of independence.
4.Health and wellness.
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 1 Cor. 6:19
Eating healthy and exercising reduces inflammation in one’s body and it helps us to manage stress. When I’m mindful of my health on a regular basis, I can do more for my family and for the Kingdom of God.
5.Fellowship.
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Acts 2:42
God created us for fellowship, not just with Him, but with the body of Christ. It’s so easy to let the needs of our family snuff out time for fellowship with others. Personally, I have to diligently carve out time in my busy schedule to make sure I connect with other women in real life. It’s what my soul needs even if my schedule says otherwise.
6.Rest.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matt. 11:28
If I’m running all week long and I have no down time, my body and mind will eventually breakdown. And if those things breakdown, then an emotional breakdown is right around the corner! I have to be extremely intentional about getting rest. In fact, I’m pretty stingy with my time on Sundays. We go to church as a family and I do my best to say no to outside commitments on this day. I even try to plan my meals so I can serve leftovers on Sunday night because the last thing I want to do is make dinner. Again.
7. Truth and wisdom.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16
This is an important pursuit. Like you, I want to make wise, biblically-based decisions. I want to honor the Lord with my life, and one way I do this is by pursuing His word. I want to go deeper in understanding of the things that truly matter.
8. Service to Others
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. Gal. 6:10
Every believer has been given a spiritual gift but it is up to us to unwrap said gift- and then use it! All too often this area of the Believer’s life is neglected because we’re too busy pursuing other things. In my quest to bring order to my home due to our recent move, I made the decision to stop serving here in this on-line ministry for a short time. While I was seeking the Lord, it was then that He revealed to me that I wasn’t doing one of the things He has called me to do, which was to write for Him. It was definitely an eye opening moment. While my intentions to serve my family and take care of my home were good intentions, it left my soul longing and searching for something more. For the life of me I couldn’t put my finger on it. I had assumed the cravings in my spirit was due to the cravings of setting up my home. And sometimes it is. But what was really missing was the spiritual side to my life- the side that is designed to pour out my spiritual gifts for the edification of the body.
9. The awakening of our senses.
All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. John 1:3
The is a new one for me and I’m quite excited by this new pursuit. Imagine for a moment, your five senses…
Taste.
Touch.
Smell.
Sight.
Sound.
Now think about how your soul feels when you take the time to actually delight in your senses and awaken them.
- You hear your favorite song.
- Taste that delicious dessert in which your taste buds do a happy dance.
- Smell the scent of a flower you love.
- You see beauty whether it’s God’s creation or a simple decoration.
- You touch an exquisite fabric or the fur of your pet.
When all of my senses are awakened, my soul delights because the Creator of the Universe is the One who made our senses. He knows beauty since He’s the creator of it.
10. Order and routine.
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Gal. 6:9
These two kissin’ cousins help us maximize our time without losing our minds! Order and routine allow us to live out the Christ-centered priorities we’ve put in place for our lives.
