  1. YES!!! Have you read the book “Sacred Marriage” by Gary Thomas? It talks all about this: how the first purpose of marriage is not to make us happy, but to make us more Christlike. This is something I’ve written about a few times.

I am absolutely loving this series. So glad I found your blog…you have wonderful things to say! Keep speaking the truth–the world needs to hear it, especially when it comes to marriage and relationships. Thank you for this.

    1. Hi Jaimie,
No, I haven’t read the book. Just recently heard about it on the web. Thank you so much for such an encouraging comment. It blessed my heart. May the words found on this screen lift our sweet Jesus up for all to see!

  2. I agree! God created marriage as a way to sharpen us and as a way for us to glorify Him. What valuable lessons for those women who have not ventured into the waters of marriage yet. Thank you for providing these for them 🙂

  3. An excellent post, and site, Jolene! I especially appreciate the gracious manner in which you address relevant issues.

Often people say that the wife’s purpose is to be a help meet, but I’m of the opinion that the helper is actually a job description rather than a purpose. Our purpose is to be our husband’s companion and playmate, and from that will naturally spring forth the helper occupation that the Lord has for us.

  4. Love this! Thank-You! We have gone to FamilyLife marriage conferences and they point this out clearly. I also love the idea that God has given you the perfect mate. Not that they are perfect, but God can perfectly use them to sanctify you.

  5. When I read your title on the link-up, I wondered what your answer would be. You hit it on the head, as usual. Love this brief, yet profound answer. If only we all married for that purpose there would be so many more happy marriages and so few divorces. Thanks for sharing this on B&BB. I pray you have a blessed week. Gail

  6. Your blog is SO encouraging and uplifting to single sisters like myself waiting for God’s perfect timing. Thank you for your encouragement!

  7. Hi there! I could have sworn I’ve been to your blog before but after browsing through many of the posts I realized it’s new to me.
